ALDUS HUXLEY
Aldus Huxley, the Author of one of the best known novels of the Twentiety Century, "Brave New World," also compiled and wrote a book called "The Perennial Philosophy." Although Huxley was not the first person to use the phrase "Perennial Philosophy," he is given credit for making the term a part of our lexicon. The book, published in 1945, attempts to define a philosophy that is found in most major religions of the world and one that cuts across time, ethnicity, culture and geography. In Western culture this philosophy can be encapsulated by the words, "The Kingdom of God is within you." In the section on the left I have selected short statements that I believe fall into the purview of this philosophy. My hope is that these few passages demonstrate how pervasive this philosophy has been. Perhaps it was immodest of me to do so but I have included one of my own. It was born out of inspiration and I believe it to be original. However, it is quite possible that it is not original. It matters not to me. What is important is the healing experience that gave birth to these words, original or not. Above we have selected some links to Twentieth Century personalities who have been an inspiration to me and whom I believe, in their lifetime gave expression to the Perennial Philosophy.
